DIFFERENT: Chapter 5
Life is not simply about what happens to us. Life is also about how we respond to what happens.
In Luke 10:25–37, Jesus tells one of His most unforgettable stories: The Good Samaritan. Three people encountered the same wounded man, but their responses could not have been more different.
The priest chose avoidance. The Levite chose distance. The Samaritan chose compassion.
In this message, we discover three Different Responses Jesus calls us to embody:
1. A DIFFERENT RESPONSE SEES AND FEELS
We don't simply notice needs—we allow the compassion of Jesus to move our hearts.
2. A DIFFERENT RESPONSE INTERRUPTS AND INTERVENES
The Samaritan didn't just feel compassion. “He went to him.” Different Love closes the distance. Sometimes what looks like an interruption may actually be the assignment God has placed in front of us.
3. A DIFFERENT RESPONSE REBUILDS AND RESTORES
The Samaritan used his oil, wine, transportation, time, money and presence. He didn't simply want the wounded man off the road—he wanted him back on his feet.
That gives us a simple picture of Different Love:
❤️ SEE → STEP IN → SERVE → SUPPORT → STAY
Hope Church YYC isn't called to be known primarily for what happens inside our building, but for what happens when our people leave the building—crossing roads, closing distances, noticing the overlooked, welcoming outsiders and showing people the compassion of Jesus.
Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.” — Luke 10:37
Let’s be that kind of church.
Let’s have DIFFERENT LOVE.
